Wendy Purdie appointed Pathway Lead
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Wendy Purdie as Bowls Scotland’s new Pathway Lead.
Wendy has been working with our women’s team since 2023 as Head Coach and Pathway Lead. In that time Wendy has overseen a number of medal successes at major championships, including two bronze medals in the women’s pairs and fours at the 2023 World Bowls Championships in Australia and two silver medals in the women’s triples and fours during last year’s Bowls Europe Championships in Scotland.
On the green, Wendy has a vast amount of playing experience at international level having represented Scotland for over 10 years and winning numerous national titles. The change in her role will see her as the Pathway Lead across the women’s, para and men’s programmes. She will be integral in the continual shaping and reviewing of our current pathway, building on our performance coaching and delivering quality environments for our talented bowlers to flourish. With of course a big focus on achieving success at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and other major Championships in the coming years.
Having previously worked as Performance Manager at Scottish Gymnastics, Wendy brings vast experience and understanding of developing pathways, building relationships and the vital edge required to be successful at the highest level.
Looking forward to starting her new role, Wendy said: “I am delighted to be appointed as Pathway Lead for Bowls Scotland and excited to work with the performance team to continue to develop the pathway for women’s, men’s and para bowlers throughout Scotland.
“I also look forward to working with the coaches to carry on the great work that has been started to create performance environments to support our talented players achieve sustainable success at a world level.”
Bowls Scotland Head of High Performance Bowls, Kareena Cuthbert, added: “Wendy has been working with the High Performance programme since 2023 and has shown commitment and ambition to support the players to achieve on the biggest stage, whilst helping establish our new accessible and inclusive podium pathway.
“I am delighted to have Wendy on board as a full-time member of the Bowls Scotland staff team and look forward to the further strides forward the performance programme will take in the coming years.”
Wendy will begin her post with Bowls Scotland on Monday 23rd June.
