Scotland win Women's, Men's & Overall Series Titles at 2024 Junior Internationals
Congratulations to Scotland’s under 25 teams on winning the clean sweep of women’s, men’s and overall series titles at the 2024 Junior Internationals.
On Saturday morning, the Scots claimed a 137-109 overall victory over the hosts Ireland. Our women’s team romped home with a 65-46 win, whilst the men’s team had to come from behind to defeat the Irish side 72-63.
Next up for Scotland was a tough test against a strong Welsh side. After some thrilling bowls by both teams, it was the Scots who done enough to win 129-106. Scotland’s women once again led from the off and finished with a 13-shot victory. The men’s contest was back and forth throughout the duration of the 21 ends, but the Scottish side eventually got over the winning line by 10 shots.
The Scots rounded off this year’s event with a commanding 150-99 victory against England.
In familiar fashion to yesterday, Scotland’s women led from the off and rallied home with a 75-42 win. A clean sweep of three rink victories for the team’s skipped by Rebecca Houston, Eilidh Weir and Beth Riva ensured the Scottish women clinched their respective series for the second year in a row.
Despite a slow start, the Scottish men came from behind to boast a 75-57 triumph against the Auld Enemy. A 30-18 win for Darren Weir and 25-14 victory for Dean Riva was more than enough to cancel out a narrow 20-25 defeat for Lewis Betts’ rink.
Well done to all Scottish players, coaches and support staff on an excellent weekend and winning all three titles on offer. A huge thank you to Belmont Bowling Club for being excellent hosts throughout the weekend.
