Andy Meekison Obituary

Bowls Scotland are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of our current Vice President, Andy Meekison. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Andy’s daughter Rhianne and his partner Donna, who have sacrificed so much of their time so Andy could serve in the countless roles he carried out across our sport.

Andy became District Co-Ordinator for District 7 in 2013, having succeeded his close friend and mentor Bob Dick MBE. Andy really came into his own in a coaching, management and selection capacity, having fulfilled all of these roles for the senior, U25 and U18 international teams in recent years.

Joining the Competitions and Events team in 2014, Andy loyally served the bowlers of Scotland with dedication and passion, helping to run the National Championships, Andrew Hamilton Trophy and numerous international events. All of these competitions being just as important to him as events being held at his own club, Duffus Park Bowling Club in Fife, where he was a member for 40 years.

In his spare time, Andy loved spending time with family and friends, often venturing out on dog walks in all weather conditions with his small companion ‘wee Vinnie’. When he wasn’t spending his weekend’s at bowling greens across Scotland, Andy enjoyed travelling the country to support his beloved Cupar Hearts Amateur Football Club, whom he was extremely proud to witness winning back-to-back Scottish Amateur Cup’s in 2023 and 2024.

Bowls Scotland will be forever grateful to Andy for all his hard work and commitment. His loss will be felt across the bowling community in Scotland and beyond but his contribution to our sport will live on forever.
