John Anderson - 2021 Gents Presidents Message

It is a privilege and honour to continue as Bowls Scotland Gents President for 2021.

It had been my plan to visit as many clubs as possible during 2020 but unfortunately this did not come to fruition. However, I’m remaining hopeful that this will become possible later in the year.

Bowls has gone through an exceptional year and I must thank all the clubs for complying with the Scottish Government’s legislation and guidelines to keep our members safe. The information that Bowls Scotland has given clubs and the way that they have collaborated is a testament to our sport.

I offer my commiserations to our national champions, who again are unable to compete in this year’s British Isles Championships.

Of course, the Scottish bowling community is disappointed with this year’s national competitions being cancelled, and I know that everyone involved at Bowls Scotland completely shares that disappointment. We are still in the middle of a global pandemic and everyone’s health and safety is more important than anything else in life at this time.

However, we can still all look forward to our new season with hope as the vaccination programme is well underway and there is light at the end of the tunnel. I encourage all clubs to welcome back their members with open arms and hope everyone is looking forward to getting back out on the green.

To everyone who has lost someone to this COVID-19 pandemic, I send my sincere condolences.
