Child Protection Workshop Dates
Child Welfare and Protection in Sport (CWPS)
CWPS training is a free course recommended for Coaches and Volunteers, and those wanting to become Club WPO’s. It is the recognised course for safeguarding training in sport and has been developed and certificated by sportscotland and Children First.
This course MUST be completed before attending Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer (CWPO) training. The course certificate is valid for 3 years.
The course consists of 2 parts :
• Module 1 – Online pre-course reading and quiz sections via Brightspace.
This must be completed in order to achieve Certification of course completion.
• Module 2 – 3 hour online tutor led session via Zoom.
After module 1 you will be able to:
• Understand what is meant by ‘child wellbeing and protection’
• Recognise the value of a child-centred approach to child wellbeing and Protection
• Identify good practice in relation to child wellbeing and protection and how this impacts the sports environment
• Recognise the legislative and policy framework around child wellbeing and protection
• Identify and respond to possible child wellbeing or protection concerns
• Identify the limits of your safeguarding role and know when to get support
After module 2 will be able to:
• Identify and recognise good coaching practice and the implications for your coaching
• Explore barriers that prevent disclosures
• Recognise and respond to child wellbeing and child concerns
• Take appropriate action if concerns about a child arises

CWPS Renewal Training
This online training course is available to anyone who’s CWPS certificate has expired.
Learners should receive an auto generated e-mail from sportscotland 3 months before their CWPS Certificate expires, but you can also self-register for a renewal award.

This renewal course is valid for 3 years, after this the standard CWPS course must be completed again.
Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer (CWPO)
This course is required for all Club Wellbeing and Protection Officers (WPO’s).
Its aims are to provide the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage and support the wellbeing of children and young people in the sporting environment.
Attendees MUST have completed CWPS training within the last 3 years in order to enrol for this training.
Training consists of a tutor led 3 hour Zoom session.

Child Wellbeing and Protection Officer (CWPO) Training - Virtual Workshops 2026
This workshop supersedes 'In Safe Hands 1 & 2'. It will give those with the responsibility for the welfare and protection of children in their club or organisation the knowledge and skill to manage any concern
Please note, these courses will close two weeks before to allow time for attendees to be registered and pre-course reading to be completed.
