Andy Wyness Obituary
It is with great sadness that we inform the bowls community that Andy Wyness, Bowls Scotland District 18 Gents Secretary, has passed away after contracting Coronavirus.
Andy was a member of Dalzell Bowling Club for the last 20 years, where he became club champion in 2009 and president in 2011. He was also a member of Lanarkshire Indoor Bowling Club. His bowling career started out as a junior at Newmains BC before going on to join Beltane BC in Wishaw in 1988. The highlight of Andy’s bowling career came in 1997 when he won the Scottish Mixed Pairs title with Nancy Shaw.
He became Gents District Secretary in 2016 for District 18 in Lanarkshire whilst also carrying out the roles of Secretary and Treasurer for the Motherwell, Wishaw and District Bowling Association.
The 53-year-old was not only a great supporter of all Bowls Scotland events and a prominent character at the National Championships but a great supporter of our sport at all levels. There was never a problem too big or too small. Andy always did everything he could to assist and was a true gentleman.
Andy is survived by wife Sandra, daughters Laura and Samantha, grandkids Caitlyn, Freya and Tyler and great granddaughter Mya. Bowls Scotland would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Andy’s family, friends and everyone at Dalzell BC at this incredibly sad time.
We urge everyone to please continue to follow the Government guidelines and stay at home and keep safe.
