Visually Impaired Director Training Workshop

Bowls Scotland is pleased to offer a free development training day for directors of visually impaired bowlers.

Taking place at Abbeyview Indoor Bowling Club on Saturday 23rd May 2026, this practical workshop will support directors in developing the skills, understanding and confidence required to work effectively with visually impaired athletes.

The three-hour session will focus on game-realistic practice situations, helping participants better understand the athlete experience, improve communication, and apply directing techniques in a practical environment.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Better understand the visually impaired athlete experience and information processing
  • Apply different directing positions, including front, side and back, appropriately
  • Use the clock system more effectively to support clear communication
  • Improve assessment of tactical awareness and head reading
  • Transfer learning into game-realistic practice situations
