SCOTLAND V HONG KONG – DAY TWO REPORT 

 

Scotland’s international test match against Hong Kong China continued today at Ralston Bowling Club today.  

 

Session One 

 

Scotland picked up where they left off on day two, notching up another five wins from six matches to clinch a 10-2 victory in the first session against Hong Kong China. 

 

Recently crowned Bowls Scotland Gents Fours champion Stewart McAlees led the way in the men’s singles, delivering a dominant display to defeat Lyndon Sham 21-9. 

 

Leah McCloy played well in the women’s singles but came up against a strong performance from Hong Kong’s Abbie Chan, eventually losing out 15-21. 

 

In the two men’s triples encounters, the Scots brought home maximum points. Craig Mackintosh, Aaron Miller & Lewis Betts had to dig deep to get over the winning line 19-17 against Quenton Ip, Nixon Man & Stephen Sy. Charlie Mitchell, Jamie Noon & Lee Trotter combined well as a trio to claim a more comfortable 21-9 victory over Langley Au Yeung, Leo Ng & Gary Kawn. 

 

Both Scottish women’s triples also proved to be victorious to secure more vital points. Beth Isbister, Aimee Harris & Eilidh Weir fought hard to get the better off Emily Chan, Queenie Lai & Angel So 17-13 in a tight affair. Meanwhile, Rachel Pirie, Emma Blyth & Rebecca Houston were in top form as they dispatched of Mandy Ho, Emmy Luk & Gillian Ng 23-9.

Session Two 

 

Building on their strong results from earlier in the day, Scotland chalked up four victories from four matches to secure an 8-0 victory against Hong Kong China in session two. 

 

There were impressive wins for the Scottish women’s triples, skipped by Emma Blyth playing with Beth Isbister and Aimee Harris winning 31 – 20. 

 

Both the Scottish men’s and women’s fours secured strong performances, with the quartet of Leah McCloy, Rachel Pirie, Eilidh Weir and Rebecca Houston dominating in a 14 – 7 victory.  The men’s four of Aaron Miller, Jamie Noon, Lee Trotter and Lewis Betts, pushing over the line to take the two points with a 16-13 final score. 

 

In another strong performance from skip, Stewart McAlees, having won in the singles earlier in the day, the gent triples completed by Charlie Mitchell and Craig MacKintosh recorded an impressive 26-8 victory over the Hong triple of Quenten IP, Nixon Man and Lyndon Sham.

  • Women’s Triples – Beth Isbister, Aimee Harris, Emma Blyth beat Mandy Ho, Queenie Lai, Gillian Ng, 31-20 
  • Men’s Fours – Aaron Miller, Jamie Noon, Lee Trotter, Lewis Betts beat Langley Au Yeung, Leo Ng, Hary Kwan, Stephen Sy, 16-13. 
  • Women’s Fours – Leah McCloy, Rachel Pirie, Eilidh Weir, Rebecca Houston beat Emily Chan, Emmy Luk, Abbie Chan, Angel So, 14-7.

Session Three 

 

In the third session of the day there was a share of the spoils with both Scotland and Hong Kong China scoring 6 points.. 

 

In a nail-biting session, there were victories for Scotland in both men’s pairs and in the women’s triples. In the Men’s triples a single shot defeat was enough to hand Hong Kong China the two points.   In a similar fashion a single shot in the final end in the women’s pairs was enough to see Emily Chan and Angel So add to Hong Kong China’s points tally. In the second women’s pairs game a strong last four ends for Hong Kong China was enough to record victory ensure a that this session would end 6 points to each nation.
