Bowls Scotland Celebrates Volunteers’ Week 2026

Bowls Scotland is proud to mark Volunteers’ Week 2026 by saying thank you to the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and passion to support our sport across the country.

Volunteers are at the heart of bowls in Scotland. From those helping with the day-to-day running of clubs, to District Co-ordinators, umpires, coaches, event volunteers, committee members and everyone working behind the scenes, their contribution makes a huge difference at every level of the game.

Across our clubs and events, volunteers help create welcoming environments for players, spectators and communities. They are often the first people to greet visitors, the ones offering guidance and support, and the people helping ensure competitions, club activity and national events run smoothly.

One of the clearest examples of the impact volunteers have on our sport is the Bowls Scotland National Championships. Each year, nearly 100 volunteers support Nationals Week at the National Centre for Bowling in Ayr, helping across a wide range of areas including ticketing, stewarding, information points, umpiring, player support, communications, live scoring and general event delivery.

Their hard work, commitment and dedication help make the National Championships one of the standout events in the Scottish bowls calendar.

Alan McDonald, Coaching and Volunteer Manager at Bowls Scotland, said:

“Without our incredible network of hard-working volunteers, bowls would simply not be the same.

“From our District Co-ordinators to those who help with the day-to-day running of their clubs, volunteers put in countless hours behind the scenes, often going unnoticed.

“There is no better example of how crucial volunteers are to our sport than our National Championships. Every year, we have nearly 100 volunteers supporting Nationals Week, carrying out a huge range of roles — from being the first to greet players and spectators, to providing help and information to those who need it.

“Without the support of these fantastic individuals, we simply could not run the National Championships to the same level or make it the amazing spectacle that it is.”

Bowls Scotland would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to every volunteer across the country who supports our clubs, districts, competitions and events.

Your time, commitment and passion are truly appreciated, and our sport simply would not be the same without you.
