Scotland claim Golds at Bowls Europe Championships

Scotland rounded off the Bowls Europe Championships with a medal rush, clinching two golds, one silver and one bronze on the final day.

Kimberley Dodds, Dawn Anderson, Megan Grantham and Rachel Sinclair secured gold in the women’s fours after a comfortable 16-6 win over Jersey. In the men’s fours final, Scotland’s Blair Davidson, Jason Banks, Connor Milne and John Fleming also came away with gold courtesy of a 14-12 victory against England in a match that went right down to the last bowl.

Emma McIntyre had to settle for silver in the women’s singles final after losing out 15-21 to Stef Branfield from England. The match started very evenly as both players tied on six shots each. England’s Branfield eventually moved clear to lead 18-9, however, Emma managed to score six shots on the bounce, but it was to be in vain as Branfield scored the final three shots she required.

In the men’s singles, Mark O’Hagan narrowly lost out in his semi-final 17-21 to eventual winner, Gary Kelly from Ireland. Despite this he was not to be disheartened and bounced back to win his bronze medal match 21-13 against England’s Jordan Philpott.

Congratulations to all of Scotland’s players and coaches for a hugely successful event which saw the team win medals in all eight disciplines.
