Mother and daughter, Lyn and Rebecca Houston win 2025 Bowls Scotland Ladies Pairs

We are delighted to share another ‘homecoming’ story from two of our recently crowned Scottish champions. Mother and daughter pairing Lyn and Rebecca Houston from Prestwick Bowling Club took the Ladies Pairs title with a comprehensive 18–5 win over Aberchirder Bowling Club on the final day of the 2025 National Championships at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr.

We spoke to Rebecca (RH) and Lyn (LH) to find out more about their family connection to bowls, the support from their club and their reaction to lifting the trophy together.

Read the full Q&A below:

Q1.) Tell us about the benefits (and any challenges!) of playing with family?

RH: “I love bowling with my mum, we have played together for so many years and we get on well on the bowling green. I know she trusts me and the decisions I make, so I think that helps us when playing together.”

LH: “Playing with Rebecca makes me feel so relaxed as she never makes me feel like I’ve played a bad bowl (even when I know I have!). We have a great relationship at home too, which helps us play well together on the green.”

Q2.) What does the support from your club, friends and family mean to you?

RH: “The support we have received not just throughout the championships, but all rounds, has been amazing. We are so lucky to have so many good friends at our club, who support us throughout all competitions. We had our family there too, which always makes it even more special to share the win with them.”

LH: “I agree with Rebecca, the support we have received from our club has been amazing. To look into the crowd and see so many familiar faces helped me to relax and enjoy my games, as I knew they were cheering on every bowl. Emily, my youngest daughter was also playing in the championships, so they had lots of games to watch!”

Q3.) How did it feel walking back into the club with your trophy?

LH: “It was a dream come true, the reception we got when we walked into the club was so overwhelming. Having only taken up bowls later in life, I never believed I would be walking into my club as a Scottish champion! We had a great night celebrating with all our friends and family.”

Q4.) How does it feel to be a Scottish champion?

RH: “It feels amazing to become Scottish Pairs champions, I still can’t believe it! To win it with my mum makes it so much more special and I don’t think anything will ever top that! The day was made even more special when Emma MacLeod, who is one of my best friends off the bowling green, won the Ladies National Singles. We play together at Paisley Indoor Bowling Club but at different outdoor clubs, and for us all to win a national title on the same day was just amazing!! I can’t wait for us all to play alongside each other in the British Bowls Championships next season!”

Congratulations once again to Lyn and Rebecca on becoming Bowls Scotland Ladies Pairs champions for 2025. We look forward to Lyn and Rebecca representing Scotland in next year’s British Bowls Championships on home soil at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr – dates TBC.
