2025 Podium Open Triples Results

Saturday 17th May saw the Podium Open Triples event being completed at four separate venues throughout Scotland.

83 teams were competing in the triples discipline, resulting in 249 players vying to reach the later stages and qualify themselves for June’s International Assessment Weekend.

A full report from each of the five separate playdowns can be found below.

Bainfield BC

The triples teams of Dee Hoggan, Emma Blyth & Stuart Thomson and Jessica Young, Lewis Betts & Daniel Gormley were the first qualifiers at Bainfield Bowling Club.

Dee, Emma and Stuart maintained a 100% winning record across the whole event, finishing in top spot in Group A. In the knockout phase the East Lothian trio got the better of Liam Nicholson, James Hogg & Liam McKay and Fraser Milligan, Ross Maguire & Malcolm Weir.

Jessica, Lewis and Daniel qualified for the semi-finals as a highest runner-up from Group B, courtesy of their three victories and one defeat in the group stages. They then impressively overcame Thomas Jamieson, Ross Byers & Gavin Smith and Ryan Turnbull, Phil Smith & Colin Spalding in their two knockout matches.

Balgownie BC

Balgownie Bowling Club’s playdown was won by the all-female trio of Katie Rendall, Ellie Rendall and Alicia Tait.

Katie, Ellie and Alicia’s three wins from four contests was enough to see them win Group A and advance to the final by the narrowest of margins. Lauren Roddie, Chris Ford and Mark McIntosh also had 9 points in Group A but only had a shot difference of +10 compared to Katie, Ellie and Alicia’s +12.

Group B was won by Tony Dickson, Kieran Alexander and Alan McDonald, who performed well throughout the day to win all four of their group games and qualify for the final.

The final was a hard-fought affair going right down to the last end. Eventually, it was Katie, Ellie and Alicia that got over the winning line.

Grangemouth BC A

James Gray, Jack Quigley & Kyle Malcolmson and Heather Wallace, Michelle Davidson & Rory Grundison were the two victorious teams at Grangemouth Bowling Club’s first qualifier.

The youthful triple of James, Jack and Kyle qualified for the knockout stages as the highest runners-up following their three wins from four matches in Group B. In the final, James, Jack and Kyle defeated Taylor Thomson, Leah Hunter and Aimmee Thomson 9-5.

Heather, Michelle and Rory were undefeated throughout the entire competition, qualifying from Group B with an unblemished record. Continuing their fine form, Heather, Michelle and Rory swept aside Stuart Inglis, Mark Phillips & Alistair Penn 10-4 in their respective final.

Grangemouth BC B

The winning teams from Grangemouth Bowling Club’s second playdown were Kieran Ward, Paul Kane & Mark O’Hagan and Lyle Robertson, Daniel Martin & Allan Ramsay.

Kieran, Paul and Mark hit the ground running in their first group game and never looked back, qualifying from Group A with four victories in as many contests. Their strong showing continued into the final as they comfortably beat Robert Barr, Sarah Jane Ewing and Ross Kinnell 10-3.

The all-West Fife team of Lyle, Daniel and Allan managed to win Group C thanks to their three wins in four matches. In the final they took on Peter Kirk, Eilidh Weir and Arron Craig from Alloa East End Bowling Club. The game was a close encounter throughout, but Lyle, Daniel and Allan used all their experience to prevail victorious 9-8.

Ralston BC

Last but not least were the two qualifying teams of Stewart McAlees, John Fleming & Connor Milne and Emma Kennedy, Chrstine McLellan & Gail Notman from Ralston Bowling Club’s playdown.

Stewart, John and Connor were undefeated across the full event, finishing in top spot in Group D with three wins and one draw from their four games. In the final, Stewart, John and Connor fended off Kevin Bain, Darren Gualtieri & Ryan Gualtieri from Hyndland Bowling Club.

Emma, Christine and Gail delivered strong performances throughout the day, topping Group B with four victories from their five respective matches. Not letting up their high standards, Emma, Christine and Gail ended the hopes of Tom Sclater, Ricky Taylor and Graeme Hume in the final.

A huge thanks to all of Saturday’s host clubs, assessors, umpires and volunteers that helped bring the Podium Open Triples event to life. This weekend see’s the Podium Open 2-Bowl Pairs discipline being contested at Balgownie Bowling Club, Cardonald Bowling Club, Grangemouth Bowling Club and Sighthill Bowling Club on Sunday 25th May.
