2024 Hong Kong Classic - Day Six Round Up
After another day of inclement weather and venue changes, Scotland had mixed fortunes on day six of the Hong Kong Classic with our Men’s and Women’s Pairs recording three wins from today’s six fixtures.
Darren Gualtieri and Iain McLean produced another strong showing, recording two victories from their three encounters. The Scots suffered their first defeat of the event 0-6 at the hands of Australia’s Kyle Hansen and Cody Packer in their first match of the day. Not to be disheartened by the loss, Darren and Iain responded in the best way possible, chalking up two back-to-back 6-0 wins over Malaysia and Japan respectively.
Scotland’s Men’s Pairs take on TKOBC tomorrow morning in their final group match having already guaranteed their qualification to the knockout stages. Their quarter final will then take place at 1pm (5am GMT) and if successful they will also contest the semi final at 5pm (9am GMT).
In the Women’s Pairs, Dee Hoggan and Rachel Sinclair began their day positively as they got the better of CCC 4-2. Despite making a strong start, Dee and Rachel were unable to capitalise on this momentum as they suffered two disappointing 0-6 defeats against Hong Kong B and HKFC.
Dee and Rachel also face TKOBC in their last group game tomorrow but unfortunately they can no longer advance to the knockout phase.
