Birmingham 2022 Lawn Bowls Kit
Bowls Scotland are delighted to formally launch the Team Scotland, Lawn Bowls playing kit for this summer’s Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Working with our Official Kit Supplier, Kukri we have designed a kit that will be practical and comfortable for our players to be able to deliver their best performance at the Games, and also that reflects and promotes a modern image of our sport. The introduction of sustainable fabrics to certain kit items also shows an encouraging 'green' step forward for our High Performance set-up.
Kit was handed out to our Birmingham 2022 bowlers at a recent training session at Broxburn BC. The playing tops and jackets feature a large, bold design of the thistle of Team Scotland’s logo along with tartan cuffs, to add an extra Scottish feel! Moving away from the old-fashioned image of bowling whites, the tops feature the blues more synonymous with Scottish playing strips. The move to colourful playing kit reflects the changes taking place within our sport to modernise, with many bowling clubs across the nation trying to appeal to the masses with more relaxed dress codes.
Billy Mellors, Team Manager was involved in the design process and was delighted to see the designs in the flesh, he said “It was an exciting day for the squad to finally see their competition kit and they were not disappointed. The vibrant design lends itself to a modern look and I’m very pleased with the final product as it provides us with comfortable and smart apparel. We are equipped for all weathers but let’s hope the suns shines on our team throughout the event”
The polos and shorts of the team’s kit are made from recycled content, a range of products available from Kukri as part of a commitment to reduce their impact on the planet. These innovative, recycled polyester fabrics are created using recycled fibres from items which may have otherwise been sent to landfill sites. The garments retain the same high quality and performance as Kukri’s other items but reduce the amount of virgin plastic involved in the supply chain. You can read more about Kukri’s sustainable initiatives within their Social Responsibility Statement.
Ash Cousins, Marketing Officer for Bowls Scotland is encouraged to see this small step being taken to reduce the impact of clothing on the environment. “In recent years conversations around carbon emissions, climate crisis and our environment have really come to the forefront. Sport isn’t exempt from this, the impact of travel, hosting events and of course producing clothing can all have a huge impact on our planet. Bowls Scotland are delighted to be able to show off this recycled content Kukri kit on the biggest stage in our sport.”
Team Scotland and Birmingham2022 will have a range of retail and supporter items, so keep an eye out for these and support our Scottish bowlers on the greens at Leamington this summer.
