2025 World Bowls Champion of Champions - Day Four Report

Iain McLean has guaranteed himself a medal at the 2025 World Champion of Champions with the Scot advancing to tomorrow’s semi finals in the men’s singles. Despite winning six of her nine matches, Jaclyn Neil sadly bowed out of the women’s singles in the group stages.

Having already qualified for the knockout phase, Iain faced off against Ireland’s David Copeland in his final group game. The Scot produced a composed display to seal a straight sets victory. He took control early, claiming the first set 8-3, before closing out the second 6-3.

Later in the day, McLean returned to action in the quarter final of men’s singles, this time playing against Naret Aiangetuen of Thailand. The Blackwood Victoria Bowling Club star started strong with a 7-3 first set win, but Aiangetuen hit back, dominating the second set 2-8 to force a tie-break. Undeterred, McLean showed his class in the decider, winning 3-1 to secure a spot in the semi finals.

Iain will now take on David Copeland from Ireland in his semi final tie at 12am (BST) on Thursday 25th September. If successful, Iain will then compete in the final at approximately 6.45am.

Jaclyn Neil completed her women’s singles campaign with a victory over Argentina’s Anette Ivonne Wyss. The Scot took charge early, winning the first set 8-3, and fighting hard throughout the second set which eventually ended in a 6-6 draw.

Unfortunately for Jaclyn, results didn’t fall in her favour to enable her to qualify for the knockout stages of the women’s singles. However, she can still be extremely proud of her efforts, winning six of her nine sectional games and representing Scotland proudly on the world stage.
