Scotland beat Australia in Test Series
Scotland successfully defeated Australia in a test-match being held at Royal Leamington Spa in England over the weekend.
The Scottish team was made up of five men and five women, which featured plenty of the country's emerging talents, that were prepared for putting themselves to the test against Australia’s High Performance team. Meanwhile, the Aussies had selected a strong team of 10 players, which was full of World Champions and Commonwealth Games gold medallists.
Team Scotland were tasked with playing the Aussies in a series of three separate test matches on the greens that will host the 2022 Commonwealth Games with the overall winner being decided by who won the most individual test series.
In the first test series, the Scots got off to a great start by winning the test with a session to spare. They eventually ran out with a commanding 17 points – 7 points victory over the Jackaroo’s.
The second test series was played over one session with 10 singles ties being played, five women’s and five men’s singles. Australia fought back in this session by winning seven out of the 10 ties in some extremely close games that went right down to the wire to clinch the second test series. The final score from this test finished 14 points – 6 points in favour of the Aussies.
Therefore, the third and final test series would be a winner takes all occasion between the Australian’s and the Scots with both countries tied on one test win each. This final test would be played over four sessions to ensure plenty of points were up for grabs for both nations. Again, Scotland made the better start and put themselves in the driving seat going into the last session as they had a 2-point advantage over the Aussies.
The Scots knew that drawing the last session and winning two out of the four games would be enough to hand them the overall series win. Dee Hoggan had been in fantastic form all weekend and finished off with a comfortable 21-9 win over Chloe Stewart to clinch her fourth singles victory over the weekend. Jason Banks faced off against Ray Pearse in the men’s singles and put in a brilliant display to win 21-10 over the experienced Jackaroo. These two wins were enough for Scotland to win the third test match as well as the overall series.
Congratulations to all Scotland players for their brilliant performances and results over the last few days against some high quality Australian opposition!
