2025 World Bowls Champion of Champions - Day One Report

Iain McLean and Jaclyn Neil have made strong starts to their World Bowls Champion of Champions campaigns at CluBarham, NSW, Australia. The Scots recorded four wins from their five matches contested on day one in the men’s and women’s singles.

2014 winner Iain McLean looks to have found his feet early on in the competition, picking up two straight sets victories over USA and Sweden respectively. Tougher tests await for the reigning Bowls Scotland men’s singles champion on day two of the event as he takes on India and South Africa in his upcoming group games.

In the women’s singles, Jaclyn Neil will be happy with her results on day one, notching up two wins from her three encounters. Jaclyn opened her account with a routine straight sets win against Botswana’s Gaoromelwe Pelemo. She then narrowly lost out to Gloria Ha from Hong Kong China in her second game 0.5-1.5 with there being very little to separate the two players. Rounding off day one, Jaclyn bounced back well to secure a crucial tie break victory over Canada. Tomorrow see’s Jaclyn compete in another three group matches against Malta, Niue and Sri Lanka.
