Scotland Men move top after strong Saturday at British Bowls

Scotland produced another strong day of performances at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr, as the British Bowls Internationals continued on Saturday.

It proved to be an excellent day for Scotland Men, who picked up two impressive session victories to move top of the overall table heading into the final day of play.

The Men opened with a 12-2 win over Wales in the morning session, winning five of the six games.

Greg Logan and Andrew Dunnett got Scotland off to a winning start with a 23-11 Pairs victory, before Gordon White, John Fleming and Connor Milne edged a close Triples contest 14-13.

Ewan Shearer, Lewis Betts and Grant Logan added a strong 22-12 Triples win, while Liam Nicholson and Colin Bonnar came through 22-13 in the Pairs. Robbie Cuthill, James Hogg and Gary Prunty completed the morning points with a 20-16 Triples victory.

Scotland Women also enjoyed a brilliant start to the day, recording a superb 14-0 victory over Jersey.

Erin Bedwell, Megan Sproat, Natalie McWilliams and Stacey McDougall opened with a 28-7 Fours win, before Dee Hoggan defeated Tracey Le Falher 21-18 in the Singles.

Further wins came from Abbi Harris, Emma Blyth, Lynn Lees and Gail Notman, who won 17-9, while Emma MacLeod claimed a 21-10 Singles victory. Dawn Anderson, Jessica Weir, Rebecca Houston and Alison Lamont added a 16-7 Fours win, before Lorna Cameron completed the full session victory with a 21-7 Singles win.

Scotland Men carried their momentum into the afternoon, producing a dominant 14-0 win over Jersey.

Ewan Shearer, Lewis Betts and Grant Logan delivered a commanding 25-7 Triples win, while Greg Logan and Andrew Dunnett added a 20-15 Pairs victory. Robbie Cuthill, James Hogg and Gary Prunty came through 17-14, with Liam Nicholson and Colin Bonnar securing a 16-14 win.

There were also strong victories for Gordon White, John Fleming and Connor Milne, who won 34-4, and Darren Gaultieri and Iain McLean, who defeated Malcolm De Sousa and Derek Boswell 19-10.

Scotland Women rounded off their day with an 8-6 win over Wales in a close afternoon session.

Dawn Anderson, Jessica Weir, Rebecca Houston and Alison Lamont continued their good form with a 20-10 Fours victory, while Leah McCloy, Emma Blyth, Lynn Lees and Gail Notman won 21-10. Bedwell, Sproat, McWilliams and McDougall also made it two wins from two on the day, coming through 23-12.

After eight sessions, Scotland Men lead the overall table on 64 points, nine points ahead of England. Scotland have won 27 of their 36 games so far and hold the joint-best shot difference across the Men’s and Women’s competitions at +173.

Scotland Women sit second in the Women’s table on 59 points, behind leaders England. The Women have won 24 of their 36 games and have also built a strong shot difference of +138.

Play concludes on Sunday, with Scotland Men set to face Ireland before a final-session meeting with England. Scotland Women will also take on Ireland before finishing their campaign against England.
