SYBA to merge with Bowls Scotland in 2022
Bowls Scotland and the Scottish Young Bowlers Association (SYBA) are delighted to announce they have agreed to merge in 2022.
This exciting development has been fully agreed by both organisations and work will begin in 2021 to complete a smooth merger by the beginning of 2022. The SYBA were founded in 1982 and have been responsible for overseeing the development of thousands of players, female and male, under the age of 17 throughout Scotland.
Bowls Scotland’s main priorities are to encourage young people into our sport and streamline the game in Scotland to create one pathway for future generations to develop from club bowlers to world class players.
A full review of the SYBA’s structure and competitions will be carried out so they can be effectively incorporated into Bowls Scotland’s strategy. This will allow the best opportunities for our upcoming players to develop their skills both on and off the green.
SYBA International Team Manager, David Ferguson, said: “Having been involved with the SYBA since the 1980's, I am extremely proud to have witnessed thousands of young people provided with the opportunity to take part and play in organised and competitive bowls.
“We have had fantastic support over the last 38 years from coaches, conveners and clubs throughout the country, producing so many excellent players with countless numbers going on to succeed in national competitions, junior and senior level internationals.
“It’s undeniable the amount of talented young Scottish bowlers who have benefited from their involvement with the SYBA. We agree that the time is right to move into a new era for young bowlers and with the resources and expertise within Bowls Scotland the future of youth bowls in Scotland is in safe hands.”
Bowls Scotland CEO, Alan McMillan, added: “Bowls Scotland and the SYBA merging together is undoubtedly a positive move for our sport.
“Attracting younger players into bowls and developing them through one clear pathway is vital for us to continue to be one of Scotland’s most successful sports. I am already looking forward to 2022 for this merger to be completed and every decision we make will be with the best interests of our young bowlers.”
More details on this merge between Bowls Scotland and the SYBA will be provided throughout 2021 as both organisations work towards completing this exciting move for Scottish bowls.
