Scotland Team announced for 2024 Bowls Europe Championship
Bowls Scotland is delighted to announce the players that have been selected to represent Scotland at the Bowls Europe Championships.
The Bowls Europe Championships are returning to the National Centre from Monday 2nd – Sunday 8th September. The teams selected boast a wealth of experience across all disciplines, with a number of players previously representing Scotland at the 2022 European Championships and they are determined to improve on the medal haul from the previous event.
In the women’s side, Rachel Sinclair, Emma McIntyre, Megan Grantham, Gail Notman and Carla Banks lead the charge. The young men’s squad of Aaron Betts, Darren Weir, Darren Gaultieri, Blair Davidson and Dean Riva have been given an opportunity to lay down a marker to demonstrate the depth of talent in Scotland. The well-established para players of Robert Barr, Garry Brown and Danny Porter will be joined by Mary Stevenson who emerged through this year’s pathway with directors Sarah Jane Ewing and James Aitken. Our women’s pairing of Pauline Wilson and Mary Wilson were due to compete, but unfortunately no other nations have been able to enter a women’s physically disabled pair.
Bowls Scotland’s Head of Performance, Kareena Cuthbert, said :“It is fantastic that Bowls Europe have returned to Scotland to host their 2024 Championships and we are very pleased to see the inclusion of para disciplines for the first time. We will continue to support Bowls Europe with their endeavours to drive an inclusive World Stage competition.
Bowls Scotland are thrilled to host this highly competitive event at our national centre. We have confidence in the experience and calibre of our selected players to deliver excellent performances across the week. I would encourage any avid spectators to get down to support our national teams.”
