Podium Open Triples Results
The Podium Open Triples event was played to a conclusion on Sunday 12th May.
68 teams were competing throughout the country across five separate venues, with no less than 204 players showcasing their talents.
A full report from each of the five venues can be found below.
Allandale BC
The winners at Allandale BC were Chris Allan, Anthony Hume and Billy Stewart.
The trio progressed through to the knockout stages from Group C courtesy of two wins against Cat Black, James Dick & Pauline Wilson and Emma Allison, David Stewart & Alison Lamont. Their only defeat of the day was a narrow 6-4 defeat at the hands of Abbie Harris, Michaela Smith and Aimee Harris.
The other three section winners was the all-West Fife team of Lyle Robertson, Daniel Martin & Allan Ramsay, the talented young trio Sarah Roberts, Logan Fraser & Astyn McKechnie, and the experienced Lanarkshire lineup of Dougie Weir, Gary Prunty & Iain McLean
In the semi finals, Chris Allan, Anthony Hume and Billy Stewart got the better of Dougie Weir, Gary Prunty and Iain McLean 6-5. In the other match, Sarah Roberts, Logan Fraser and Aystyn McKechnie impressively overcame Lyle Robertson, Daniel Martin and Allan Ramsay 8-5.
The final was an extremely close encounter with both teams going toe to toe throughout the duration of the match. Eventually, it was Chris, Anthony and Billy that came out on top, winning 5-4 after seven ends.
Balgay BC
It was Whitehall Bowling Club’s Abigayle Grant, Ellis Adie and Owen Jack that triumphed at the Balgay BC playdown.
The talented young trio qualified for the knockout stages via Group A thanks to their two victories over Andrew Reilly, Andrew Thomson & Jason Banks and Rachel Pirie, Kieran Dorricott & David Gray respectively. Abigayle, Ellis and Owen’s only loss was a 6-2 defeat against Sarah Campbell, Bronagh Gillies and Amy Blyth in their final group game.
In Group B, the Angus based team of Leah McCloy, Jamie Low & Andy Furye progressed as section winners with a 100% winning record. Angela Banks, Carla Banks and Colin Banks qualified from Group C after winning two of their three encounters. Finally, in Group D, it was David Stewart, Laura Duff and Isla Duncan that managed to come out on top in an extremely tight section with all three teams all tied on 3 points each.
The semi final lineup saw David Stewart, Laura Duff and Isla Duncan take on the Banks’ family from Inverurie BC. It was Angela, Carla and Colin that came out on top as they secured a well earned 11-4 victory. Abigayle Grant, Ellis Adie and Owen Jack took on Leah McCloy, Jamie Low and Andy Furye in the second semi final and held their nerve to clinch a narrow 8-7 win.
In the final, Abigal, Ellis and Owen got the better of Angela, Colin and Carla 12-8 in a high scoring contest.
East Lothian Co-Op BC
Craigentinny Bowling Club’s international trio of Aaron Betts, Daniel Gormley and Andy Caldwell came out on top at yesterday’s East Lothian Co-Op BC qualifier.
The Edinburgh based team went undefeated throughout the whole event as qualified from Group C with three wins out of three against Jake Watling, Lewis Linton & Liam Fairgrieve, Martin Campbell, Ross Maguire & Gavin Smith and Gareth Robertson, Sophie McGrouther & Ross Noble.
In Group A, Brian Clarkson, Craig Gourlay and John McDermott progressed to the knockout stages as section winners. Group C was dominated by Charlie Mitchell, Craig Mackintosh and Lewis Betts as they topped the group with three wins out of three. Gareth Robertson, Sophie McGrouther and Ross Noble also qualified for the knockout phase as the highest runner up in the event with 6 points and a +10 shot difference.
Both semi finals were one sided affairs as Brian Clarkson, Craig Gourlay and John McDermott defeated Gareth Robertson, Sophie McGrouther and Ross Noble 10-0. Aaron Betts, Daniel Gormley and Andy Caldwell impressively dispatched Charlie Mitchell, Craig Mackintosh and Lewis Betts 9-0 in the second semi final.
The final was a much closer encounter that went all the way to a nail-biting extra end. Eventually, it was the Craigentinny trio of Aaron, Daniel and Andy that proved victorious.
Kilmarnock Portland BC
At Kilmarnock Portland BC, it was the all-female team of Jenna Bell-Murphy, Dawn Anderson and Rachel Sinclair that came out on top.
The experienced trio qualified through Group C courtesy of wins over Lawra Cox, Lewis Milligan & Wendy Grant and Kieran Reynolds, Robert Lenza & Derek McClue. Jenna, Dawn and Rachel’s only defeat throughout the day came in their final group game against Hyndland BC’s Kevin Bain, Darren Gualtieri and Ryan Gualtieri.
In Group A, Megan Sproat, George Robertson and Gavin Johnston finished in top spot thanks to their one victory and one draw from their two respective group games. Emily Houston, Jamie Houston and Kerr Harris impressively qualified from Group B as they won all three of their matches. Jamie Noon, Jack Montgomerie and Chris Carswell were the final qualifiers from Group D as they also won all three of their encounters.
In the semi finals, Jenna Bell-Murphy, Dawn Anderson and Rachel Sinclair clinched a commanding 9-4 victory over Jamie Noon, Jack Montgomerie and Chris Carswell. Emily Houston, Jamie Houston and Kerr Harris also progressed through to the final thanks to a narrow 6-4 win against Megan Sproat, George Robertson and Gavin Johnston.
The final was a nip and tuck affair throughout the seven ends, but it was Jenna, Dawn and Rachel that claimed a well earned 8-5 victory in the end.
The Inverness BC
Blair Gourley, Mark Thompson and Mark Biondi claimed victory at yesterday’s Podium Open Triples playdown at The Inverness BC.
Despite losing their first group match, Blair and the two Mark’s fought back well to win their next three games against Sandra Dean, Joe Sammons & Stuart Cruickshank, Jamie-Lee Lane, Alisha Stephen & Corey Cadger and Finlay Gowan, Robert Marshall & Mike Stephen to finish top of Group A.
The only team to defeat the eventual winners throughout the day was John McGill, Stephen Rollinson and Dean McPhee. They also qualified for the knockout stages following their two wins and a draw in four matches to finish in second place in Group A.
Group B was dominated by Lee Trotter, David Mitchell and Kyle Ross as they advanced to the knockout phase with four victories in as many matches. Ian Penwright, Andrew Adamson and Scott Davidson completed the semi-final lineup, finishing in second place in Group B with two wins and two defeats.
In the semi finals, Blair Gourley, Mark Thompson and Mark Biondi saw off Ian Penwright, Andrew Adamson and Scott Davidson with a 9-4 win. Lee Trotter, David Mitchell and Kyle Ross also secured their place in the final after defeating John McGill, Stephen Rollison and Dean McPhee 6-3.
The final was a relatively one-sided encounter with Blair, Mark and Mark coming out on top 8-3 against Lee, David and Kyle.
