Wes Pollock Obituary
We are extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former District 18 Gents District Secretary and Bowls Scotland Honorary Member, Wes Pollock.
Wes was a member of Motherwell Miners Bowling Club for over 65 years and spent the vast majority of this time serving in various positions on the committee. He was President of the club in 1979 and rewarded for his service and dedication to Motherwell Miners by, firstly, being made an Honorary Life Member then, latterly, being made an Honorary Life President. Wes was also a fine bowler and managed to win the Club Championship in 1985 and 1989.
Wes’ entire adult life revolved around bowling, and he was always the first to volunteer his services, be it for Motherwell Miners’ or other bowling bodies. He was a Past President of the Motherwell, Wishaw & District Bowling Association, a Past President of the Lanarkshire Bowling Association, and served as both SBA and Bowls Scotland Gents District Secretary for District 18 from 1997 to 2016. To recognise his many years of hard work and commitment, Wes was made an Honorary Member of Bowls Scotland at the 2017 AGM.
Throughout his entire bowling career, Wes was supported by his loyal wife Jean, who was rarely far from his side. Motherwell Miners Bowling Club considered it fitting to reward Jean’s dedication by making her an Honorary Life President too.
Wes may no longer be with us, but his contribution to bowling will live long in the memory of everybody who had the privilege of knowing him. Bowls Scotland would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Wes’ family, friends, and everyone at Motherwell Miners Bowling Club at this incredibly sad time.
