2021 National Competitions Update
Bowls Scotland would like to provide an update to our clubs and members regarding national competitions for the 2021 season.
Work has been underway since October last year to look at various scenarios for our 2021 competition calendar. Whilst it is too early to determine what the competition calendar is going to look like for certain, we are doing everything we can to enable the National Championships go ahead this season.
The Scottish Government are continuing to implement and monitor the five-level framework to help suppress the virus, and if restrictions allow, Bowls Scotland are committed to offering our members a competitive season. As with our National Championships, the Andrew Hamilton Trophy and Ladies National Top 10 are also currently undergoing scenario planning.
The health and safety of our members continues to be our number one priority. Whilst the roll-out of the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 vaccination programme has given us all some much-needed optimism, we will wait for further updates from the Scottish Government in the coming weeks to gain clarity and timescales to inform our decision making.
Last year, we saw many of our clubs demonstrate adaptability, creativity and resilience throughout a restricted season and we are confident that we will be back on the green in 2021. We all know how important being active is for physical, mental and social health and wellbeing, with our clubs playing a vital role in connecting local communities up and down the country.
We continue to work for and on behalf of our clubs, preparing our COVID Return to the Green Guidance for the 2021 season (including competitions and events, bowling activity and facilities) and offering training and education opportunities for volunteers and clubs to ensure a safe return for our sport. Guidance will be released once we gain further feedback at our COVID review sessions later this month.
