Podium Open Para Pairs Results
The inaugural Podium Open event was contested at Balgay Bowling Club on Saturday 11th May, with 20 teams competing in the Para Pairs.
The teams had been split into four sections each consisting of five teams, with the four group winners automatically advancing to an International Assessment Day in June.
James Dick and Ross Noble finished in top spot in Group A after going the whole day undefeated, finishing up with three wins and a draw. Their three victories came against Michael McLoughlin & Keith Smith, Shaizad Hussain & Amy Buck and Rosemary Lenton & Pauline Wilson. Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallists Rosemary Lenton and Pauline Wilson also enjoyed a successful day in Group A as they won three and lost one of their four contests and narrowly missed out in second place.
Group B was dominated by Mark Fleming and Alex Patterson as the duo were in top form throughout the day to win all four of their games. The current Bowls Scotland Para Open Pairs champions impressively saw off Daniel Porter & Michael Simpson, Adam Strachan & Stuart Chesby, Mike Nicoll & William Nicol and Melanie Inness & John Miller.
Mary Stevenson and Gary Hinks finished the day as winners of Group C as they also won all four of their respective group matches. The Scottish internationalists got the better of Rebekah Perry & Elizabeth Jackson, Sharon Moncrieff & Cat Black and Laura Cluxton & Daniel Meikle in their opening three group games. Their final group match was a winner takes all decider against Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallists Garry Brown and Robert Barr, who were also undefeated at this stage. The match was a high-quality affair with both teams fighting hard to secure their qualification. Mary and Gary eventually came out on top with a 5-4 victory.
In Group D, it was Stuart Stevens and Glen Livingston that came out on top courtesy of their three victories and one draw from their four matches. Their three victories came against Crystal Roberts & Ian Graham, Elaine Gordon & Sandy Mackintosh and Kevin Anderson & Kelly Anderson. Steve Key and Fraser Mathieson were unfortunate not to finish in first place as they finished the day undefeated, also with three wins and a draw.
A huge thanks to Balgay BC for hosting Saturday’s event as well as all the assessors, umpires, directors and volunteers that helped make the Podium Open Para Pairs happen.
