2025 Hong Kong Classic - Day Five Report

Day five was yet another fruitful day for the Scottish contingent at the Hong Kong Classic as there were three wins from today’s four matches for our men’s and women’s pairings.

In the men’s pairs, Darren Gualtieri and Gary Prunty continue to lead the way in Group B after chalking up a further two victories. The Scots took on the Irish duo of Simon Martin and Stuart Bennett in their opening contest of the day, with Darren and Gary securing an impressive straight sets win. In their second and final match of the day, Scotland came up against the host nation under the floodlights at Kowloon Cricket Club. Despite narrowly losing the first set 9-11, Darren and Gary bounced back well to clinch the second set 10-3 to secure a 4-2 victory.

The Scottish pairing have now won all seven of their sectional games so far and can look forward to facing TMSA, KBGC and ZGMBC in their three games tomorrow.

Our women’s pair of Jess Weir and Alison Lamont had mixed emotions on day five, having to settle for one win and one defeat. In their first game of the day, the Scottish duo agonisingly came up short by one shot against CdeR to be defeated 2-4. However, not letting the disappointment get to them, Jess and Alison responded in the best possible manner by picking up a comfortable 14-1 & 10-6 win over SBSC.

With five victories from their seven group matches so far, Jess and Alison also currently sit in first position in Group C, tied on 30 points with India but the Scots have a superior shot difference. Tomorrow will be a crucial day for Jess and Alison’s qualification hopes as they take on Hong Kong China, India and New Zealand respectively,

Best of luck to all four players for their four remaining group matches over the next two days!
