The awards night will take place in Glasgow on Friday 18th November, and we are sure our Scottish bowling community will join us in congratulating our players for being shortlisted amongst a number of inspirational women in sport from across the country.
The para bowls team have been shortlisted for the Team of the Year award sponsored by University of the West of Scotland. Melanie Inness and Rosemary Lenton are both nominated alongside Sam Kinghorn, Athletics in the Para Athlete of the Year award with Rosemary also nominated in SWiS’s coveted Pioneer in Sport category which celebrates athletes with a pioneering spirit who through their example enable participation in sport.
On being nominated, Mel Inness who won Gold at Birmingham in the B2-B3 Mixed Pairs, said:
“I am absolutely delighted to have been nominated for these awards. This is recognition of all the hard work and commitment made by the parabowlers, directors and head coach, Bob Christie.
“To be part of this ‘gold medal’ para team is very special and has created a close bond and friendship. A historic year for sure!”
Delighted to see women from bowls being recognised in these national awards, Arlene Ewing, Director of Empowering Women in Bowls said:
“It’s fantastic to see our bowlers being nominated for multiple awards at this fantastic event. Last year we saw Katrina Wallace, one of our National Volunteer Award winners being nominated as Volunteer of the Year, and it’s brilliant to see bowlers being shortlisted again in 2022. Our para bowlers are fantastic role models for our sport and their attitude, friendship and commitment to excellence was on show for the world to see in Birmingham. They demonstrated professionalism and warmth both on and off the green, raising the profile of our wonderful game. I wish to congratulate them on their nominations and wish them all the very best for the awards night.”
Bowls Scotland will share updates from the awards night so keep an eye out for updates on our social media channels as well as the Scottish Women in Sport pages.
