Scotland v Ireland Para Test Match: Day 2 Session One Results

Scotland concluded their test match against Ireland with yet another impressive display this morning at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr. The Scots claimed two victories and a draw from the four Physically Disabled and Visually Impaired Triples matches being contested.

Melanie Inness, Ian Graham and Stuart Stevens led the way for Team Scotland as they rallied home with an 11-4 & 10-3 win over Paul Fisher, Linda Walsh and Mairead Loughran.

The trio of Laura Cluxton, James Dick and Garry Brown shortly followed suit. They notched up a commanding straight sets victory against Norman Rainey, Billy Finnegan and Glenn Kaufmann.

Gary Hinks, Mary Stevenson and Ross Noble had to settle for a draw when they came up against Kevin McManus, Peter Cullinan and Sam McAfee. The Scottish team held a 7-5 lead going into the last end of the first set but unfortunately lost three shots to lose the set. However, Scotland responded well from that setback and claimed the second set 10-0 to level up the score.

Mark Fleming, John Miller and Robert Barr suffered Scotland’s only defeat of the session as they lost out to Ireland’s Conor Thompson, Liz Thompson and Brian Smyth. The Scots managed to win the first set fairly comfortably 10-3 but narrowly came up short 5-6 in the second set. With there still being five minutes remaining in the two-hour time limit, the match now entered what would be a one end tie break. Scotland held shot for the entirety of the end but a brilliant draw to within inches of the jack from Irish skip Brian Smyth, with the last bowl of the game, secured victory for the Irish triple.

Well done to all of Scotland’s players, directors and coaches on their impressive performances and results over the last two days. A huge thank you goes to Ireland for travelling to Ayr and providing vital competitive matches for both teams.
