Bowls Scotland commit to working towards 5-year sustainability plan
Bowls Scotland are delighted to announce that we have committed to working towards our 5-year business sustainability plan to reduce our carbon footprint as a governing body of sport.
Over the winter of 2022 our staff completed the Carbon Champions training course organised by the University of the West of Scotland. Bowls Scotland were one of 27 South Ayrshire companies involved, receiving consultancy and training to help complete a specific carbon reduction plan for our organisation.
We have received approval on our 1-year and 5-year business sustainability plans. The next steps are for all delivery areas of the business to set targets for reducing emissions. Great progress has already been made with our annual affiliation and competition entries process becoming completely paperless with member clubs now completing this information via our Online Club & Membership System.
In February 2023, we also signed a partnership agreement with Scottish waste management firm, Change Waste Recycling, who provide award winning, high-quality recycling and waste management services to over 2,500 UK based businesses.
Speaking about the importance of sustainability in our sport, Bowls Scotland CEO, Alan McMillan, said: “We are committed to reviewing and reducing our carbon output along with all sports in line with government guidelines.
“Sport in Scotland and globally has an important role to play in reducing carbon emissions. We hope that working collaboratively with new and existing partners that we can provide benefits to our member clubs whilst minimising our sports impact on the environment.”
“In time we will be looking at how the Bowls Scotland member clubs can play their part in reducing waste and their carbon footprint.”
Throughout 2023 we will be working with sportscotland to gather resources to help support our clubs join us on this journey. In the meantime, if your club is carrying out any environmental projects, no matter how big or small, we would love to hear about these via info@bowlsscotland.com.
