2023 Hong Kong Classic - Day Eight Round Up

Congratulations to Dee Hoggan and Rachel Sinclair who defeated England’s Nicole Rogers and Harriet Stevens to become the first Scottish pairing ever to win the Women’s Pairs at the Hong Kong Classic.

The Scots managed to secure a 1.5-0.5 sets victory in an action-packed final which featured some stunning bowls by both teams.

In the first set, Dee and Rachel were behind throughout the duration of the set and went into the last end trailing by 4 shots. After an excellent trail of the jack by Rachel, the Scots managed to pick up a count of 6 shots to clinch the opening set 9-7.

The second set was yet another back-and-forth affair with Dee and Rachel narrowly getting their noses in front to hold a 2-shot advantage going into the last end. After a nail-biting final end, it came down to a measure to see if England had done enough to score the 3 shots they required to force the match into a tie break. Thankfully from a Scottish perspective it was only 2 shots to England which saw the second set finish 9-9 and Scotland crowned champions.

Well done again to Dee and Rachel on their amazing performances and historic achievement over the last week! Congratulations also go to Paul Kane Jnr and Gary Prunty on their impressive bronze medal in the Men’s Pairs event. All four players have certainly done Scotland proud!
