2024 Youth Internationals - Day Two Report
Following another two victories over Ireland and England, Scotland were crowned winners of the 2024 Youth Internationals at Belmont Bowling Club earlier today.
The young Scots went into today’s matches with a 5-point advantage over second placed England. Keen to ensure that gap didn’t shorten, the Scottish team produced yet another spirited display to defeat Ireland 10-2 in the penultimate session of play. Wins for the triples skipped by Logan Fraser, Kyle Logan and Charlie Mitchell was enough to ensure Scotland claimed victory despite Sarah Campbell, Leah Hunter and Logan Kennedy losing out 14-21.
With England also beating Wales 10-2 in the first session, Scotland maintained their 5-point advantage going into a last session shootout against the Auld Enemy.
Despite only needing 4 points to become champions, Scotland’s youngsters had other ideas and finished the series off in style by securing a hard fought 10-2 victory over England. Sarah Campbell and Logan Kennedy completed a clean sweep of pairs wins together throughout the series as they got the better of England’s Tegan Grewal and Ryan Lali 14-13. In the fours, Scotland managed to win both contests relatively comfortably. Kayden Young, Amy Blyth, Leah McCloy and Charlie Mitchell claimed a 21-11 victory, whilst Sarah Roberts, Leah Hunter, Blair Gourley and Kyle Logan led from the start and eventually finished with a 16-14 win. Emily Houston and Logan Fraser suffered a tough 11-20 defeat to Madison King and Finley Williamson but thankfully this win for England was merely a consolation in the overall standings.
Congratulations to the full Scottish team and our coaching staff, Julie Forrest and Colin Noon, on their well-deserved victory. We would also like to thank England, Ireland and Wales for supporting this annual fixture and Belmont Bowling Club for their hospitality and hosting the event.
