International Squad announced for 2025
Bowls Scotland is delighted to announce its international squad for 2025 as preparations begin to take shape ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
A total of 72 players and directors have been named in the squad that will represent Bowls Scotland at this year’s international events including the British Bowls Internationals, Para Home Nations, Atlantic International Challenge, Australia Test Match, Wales Test Match, and World Bowls’ new World Cup.
There is an experienced feel to the men selected with 17 players having all previously represented Scotland at senior international level. Lewis Betts, Colin Bonner, Paul Innes, Stewart McAlees, Allan Ramsay and Calum Williamson have all received their first senior call ups, however all six players have represented Scotland at U25 Internationals in the past. Craig Adrain and Greg Logan complete the squad, both of whom will be making their first ever international appearances.
19 of the women’s players selected have all represented Scotland previously at senior international level. Sophie McGrouther and Megan Sproat make the step up from the U25 International team, having both won the Ladies Triples and Ladies U25 Singles titles respectively at the 2024 Bowls Scotland National Championships. Arthurlie Bowling Club’s Jaclyn Neil is the only international debutant after winning last year’s Bowls Scotland Ladies Singles crown.
In the visually impaired and physically disabled categories, 17 of the players selected have also previously represented Scotland at the Para Home Nations. Laura Cluxton, Gary Hinks, Steve Key, Gareth Marshall and Lee Mitchell have all impressed in test matches against Ireland in the last two seasons and now make the step up to the international squad. There are first time call ups for visually impaired director John McDermott as well as Andrew Shea and former SIBA Gents Singles champion Stuart Sloan in the physically disabled category.
Speaking on the international squad selection, Bowls Scotland’s Head of High Performance Bowls, Kareena Cuthbert, said: “After a highly competitive selection phase it is exciting to see several new faces break into an extremely strong squad which is bolstered by a number of experienced players.
“I am looking forward to seeing a dominant Scotland team take to all our international competitions and a continued drive to challenge each other within our squad training environments.”
All members of the squad will attend the International Squad Day at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr on Sunday 15th June, after which Scotland’s teams for the 2025 British Bowls Internationals and Para Home Nations will be announced.
