Scotland Women crowned British Bowls U25 champions as Men secure silver

Scotland’s Women produced a remarkable final-session comeback to win the 2026 British Bowls U25 International Series, while the Men narrowly missed out on gold after two incredibly close title deciders in Leamington Spa.

Both competitions went down to the last game at Victoria Park, with Scotland’s Women completing the 10-0 victory over England they required to claim gold by two points. The Men entered their final match four points clear at the top but were narrowly overtaken following an 8-2 defeat to England, finishing just two points behind the champions.

Women complete stunning comeback

Scotland began the competition with an 8-4 victory over Ireland before suffering a 10-2 defeat to England in session two. They responded strongly by beating Wales 8-4 to complete Saturday’s play on 18 points.

England held a 16-point advantage at the end of the opening day, leaving Scotland with plenty of work to do across Sunday’s three remaining sessions.

The comeback began with a dominant 10-0 victory over Wales, with Scotland winning all four disciplines. Another strong performance followed against Ireland as an 8-2 success reduced England’s advantage to eight points ahead of the final session.

That meant Scotland had to defeat England 10-0 to have any chance of taking the title.

With no margin for error, the team delivered an outstanding clean sweep:

• Abbie Harris and captain Rebecca Houston won the pairs 19-15.
• Sarah Campbell, Kara Lees and Emma Blyth secured an 18-16 triples victory.
• Lauren Roddie, Lucy Hogg and Megan Sproat won their triples 16-13.
• Beth Isbister, Erin Bedwell, Leah McCloy and Beth Riva completed the sweep with a 12-10 fours victory.

Scotland won the overall shots contest 65-54, securing all 10 available points in a contest which remained alive until the final bowl.

The result moved Scotland onto 46 points, two ahead of England, to complete an incredible turnaround and secure the Women’s Series title. Scotland collected 28 of the 30 points available across Sunday’s three sessions.

Men narrowly miss out on gold

Scotland’s Men also opened their campaign with an 8-4 win against Ireland before losing 10-2 to England in the second session.

They responded emphatically against Wales, winning four of the five disciplines to record a 10-2 victory and end Saturday on 20 points, four behind England.

Scotland continued their strong form on Sunday morning with an 8-2 victory over Wales. A 6-4 win against Ireland then moved them four points clear of England heading into the deciding session between the two nations.

The title remained in the balance throughout a tense final match.

James Dunnett, Charlie Mitchell and Jamie Noon earned Scotland’s two points with an 18-13 win in the triples. However, England edged two closely fought disciplines, winning the pairs featuring Arron McGlynn and Lewis Betts 14-12 and the triples against Logan Kennedy, Kieran Dodds and captain Danny Stevenson 15-13.

England also won the fours 15-8 and finished six shots ahead overall, taking the session 8-2.

With the destination of the title undecided until the final bowl, England moved above Scotland to win the Men’s Series by just two points. Scotland finished with 36 points and a positive shot difference of 26 to earn silver.

The weekend provided a dramatic conclusion to the 2026 British Bowls U25 International Series, with gold and silver representing an excellent return for Scotland’s young players.
