Scotland v Hong Kong China - Day One Report

Scotland’s international test match against Hong Kong China got underway at Ralston Bowling Club today. The Scots dominated day one’s fixtures, winning 10 of the 12 individual matches which were contested across two sessions of play.

Session One

Scotland made a strong start to proceedings, recording five wins from six matches to claim an early 10-2 advantage over Hong Kong China.

In the men’s pairs, Jamie Noon & Charlie Mitchell secured Scotland’s opening victory 23-12 against Quenton Ip & Lyndon Sham. The Scots other men’s pairing of Aaron Miller & Lewis Betts followed suit with a resounding 21-6 triumph over Nixon Man & Gary Kwan.

Beth Isbister & Eilidh Weir made it three wins in as many contests for Scotland when they overcame Emily Chan & Gillian Ng 19-10. Rachel Pirie & Rebecca Houston suffered the only defeat of the first session, losing out 12-26 to Emmy Luk & Abbie Chan.

Scotland’s men’s triple of Lee Trotter, Craig Mackintosh & Stewart McAlees notched up the largest winning margin of the session with a resounding 27-8 victory against Langley Au Yeung, Leo Ng & Stephen Sy.

Leah McCloy, Aimee Harris & Emma Blyth gelled well together to clinch the final victory of the session with a hard fought 21-15 win over Mandy Ho, Queenie Lai & Angel So.

Session Two

Building on their strong results from earlier in the day, Scotland yet again chalked up five victories from six matches to secure a 10-2 victory against Hong Kong China in session two.

There were impressive wins for both Scottish singles representatives to start the session well for the home nation. Lee Trotter got the better of Gary Kwan 21-18 in the men’s singles in a closely contested encounter. In the women’s singles, Eilidh Weir performed well to defeat Gillian Ng 21-14 in a high-quality encounter.

Scotland notched up another two victories in the pairs disciplines. Jamie Noon & Craig Mackintosh took an early lead and managed to maintain their advantage to beat Leo Ng & Lyndon Sham 17-13. Leah McCloy & Emma Blyth were even more dominant in their women’s pairs match, getting the better of Mandy Ho & Angel So 23-13.

The spoils were shared between Scotland and Hong Kong across the two fours matches. Aaron Miller, Charlie Mitchell, Stewart McAlees & Lewis Betts struggled to make an impact in their men’s fours game, going down 8-18 against Langley Au Yeung, Quenton Ip, Nixon Man & Stephen Sy. Bouncing back well from their defeat earlier in the day, Rachel Pirie & Rebecca Houston were joined by Beth Isbister & Aimee Harris in the women’s fours. The Scottish quartet rounded off day one’s play with a 17-8 victory over Emily Chan, Emmy Luk, Queenie Lai & Abbie Chan.

Day two see’s three sessions of play being contested across singles, pairs, triples and fours disciplines. Scotland will be looking to consolidate on their impressive start to the test match as they currently hold a 20-4 advantage over Hong Kong China.
