Nationals Stories - Lesley Gordon Stewart

Huntly Bowling Club in District 2 now have their first ever National Champion after Leslie Gordon Stewart won the Gents National Over 55 Singles title yesterday afternoon.

We recently reported that Huntly BC have an incredible 18 players through to the National Championships this year which is a great achievement for one club. However, Leslie proved that Huntly weren’t just here to make up the numbers as he won five games at the National Centre for Bowling in Ayr on his way to being crowned Scottish Over 55 Gents singles champion.

In his first-round match, Leslie defeated last year’s winner, Ian Garioch (Arbroath) and claimed that this gave him a boost going into his other matches.

He said: “I have qualified for the Senior Singles on two previous occasions and both times I have been beaten in the first round. When you beat someone that’s won it the year before it gives you the confidence and belief that you can go on and win it too.”

Leslie continued: “Our gents fours got beat in the final two years ago so to go on and win a gold medal for the club is brilliant.”

Congratulations to Leslie on becoming Huntly BC’s first ever National champion and good luck to all other players from Huntly in their remaining games this week!
