Scottish medal rush at Bowls Europe Championships
Scotland came away from the first half of the Bowls Europe Championships with four out of four possible medals. Unfortunately, there were no golds in the men’s and women’s pairs and triples but a huge well done to all 10 players on winning one silver and three bronze medals.
In the men’s triples final, Blair Davidson, Mark O’Hagan and Connor Milne lost out 12-19 to the strong Irish team consisting of Aaron Tennant, Gary Kelly and Mark Wilson. The men’s pairs bronze medal match saw Jason Banks and John Fleming bounce back from their semi-final defeat with a resounding 25-4 win over Ireland’s Stuart Bennett and Stephen Kirkwood.
In the women’s pairs bronze medal match, Emma McIntyre and Rachel Sinclair started strongly and never looked back and claimed a convincing 25-8 victory over Wales’ Alis Butten and Bethan Russ. Kimberley Dodds, Dawn Anderson and Megan Grantham also secured a bronze medal courtesy of a hard-fought 18-15 win against the Welsh triple of Lauren Gowen, Hannah Williams and Melanie Thomas.
Attention now turns to the men’s and women’s singles and fours over the next three days.
