Scotland team announced for 2025 Hong Kong, China test match

Bowls Scotland is delighted to announce the players that have been selected to represent Scotland in an upcoming international test match against Hong Kong, China.

Scotland last faced Hong Kong, China in 2018, and this year’s test match will be held at Ralston Bowling Club in Paisley from Thursday 21st – Saturday 23rd August. A total of 14 players have been selected across the men’s and women’s categories to compete in singles, pairs, triples and fours disciplines throughout the event. All Scottish players selected are under the age of 25, enabling us to provide high level international competition for the next generation of stars.

Lewis Betts and Stewart McAlees will bring experience to the men’s team after making their senior international debuts at this year’s British Bowls Internationals at Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club, Wales. Accompanying them in the test series will be Craig Mackintosh, Aaron Miller, Charlie Mitchell, Jamie Noon and Lee Trotter, who were all part of Scotland’s triumphant British Bowls Junior Internationals team in 2024.

Prestwick Bowling Club’s Rebecca Houston will lead the women’s sides challenge, having already represented Scotland at senior international level over the last three years. Joining Rebecca will be the talented Emma Blyth, Aimee Harris, Beth Isbister, Leah McCloy, Rachel Pirie and Eilidh Weir, who also all featured in last year’s British Bowls Junior Internationals victory for Scotland.

Speaking ahead of the test match, Bowls Scotland’s U25 Pathway Lead, Colin Noon, said: "We are looking forward to testing ourselves against a very strong Hong Kong, China team at Ralston Bowling Club next month.

“Hong Kong, China will prove to be a formidable test for our young players, and we have a good blend of youth and experience across our team. The busy schedule across the three days of play will be a test of skill, stamina and concentration, and act as excellent preparation for those who may subsequently be involved in the Junior Internationals at Northfield in September."
