Scotland team announced for 2025 World Cup
Bowls Scotland is delighted to announce the players that have been selected to represent Scotland at the 2025 World Cup.
The inaugural World Cup will be hosted by World Bowls from Tuesday 4th – Saturday 8th November at Bukit Kiara National Lawn Bowl Centre, Malaysia, the highly-acclaimed bowls venue which staged the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games.
12 countries will participate in the World Cup, the host country, Malaysia, plus the 11th highest overall countries from the 2023 World Bowls Championships – Australia, Canada, England, Hong Kong China, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, USA and Wales. Each competing nation will pick six players in their team, two men, two women and two para players (one of each gender), who will be competing in singles and pairs disciplines in their respective categories.
Man of the moment Jason Banks is the first player selected in Scotland’s men’s team following his unprecedented success winning the World Open Singles, World Open Pairs and World Mixed Pairs in January 2025. Jason is joined by five-time World Open Singles champion and four-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Paul Foster MBE from Troon Portland Bowling Club.
The women’s team features former Ladies World Matchplay Singles champion, 2012 World Bowls Championships women’s fours gold medallist and 2018 Commonwealth Games women’s triples silver medallist Caroline Brown. Completing the women’s team is 2025 World Bowls Indoor Women’s Singles champion Sophie McGrouther, who also last month won the women's triples title at the British Bowls Championships.
After recently winning back-to-back Para Home Nations titles, Garry Brown and Pauline Wilson will complete Scotland’s team in the para categories. Both Garry and Pauline are highly experienced at international level having both won gold in their respective men’s and women’s physically disabled para pairs disciplines at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Bowls Scotland’s Pathway Lead, Wendy Purdie, said: “Congratulations to the players selected to attend the World Cup in Malaysia. This is an exciting opportunity to see our team compete against the world’s best bowlers and show the world the talent we have in Scotland.
“The matches will be played on an indoor surface which is another vital part of our preparations for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. I am sure with the experience and talent we have across the team the players will put up a strong challenge for medals.”
