2025 World Cup - Day Five Report

The inaugural World Bowls World Cup reached its conclusion in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia earlier today, with Scotland bringing home two silvers and one bronze medal from the seven separate disciplines being contested throughout the event.

In the men’s pairs final, Jason Banks and Paul Foster MBE were sadly pipped on a one end tie break by the Welsh duo of Daniel Davies Jnr and Ross Owen to miss out on gold. The Scottish pairing dominated the early stages of the contest, winning the first set 7-2. Wales came fighting back in the second half of the match, clinching the second set 1-5 and holding their nerve in the tie break to be crowned champions.

Pauline Wilson and Garry Brown also had to settle for a silver medal, losing out to Australia’s Serena Bonnell and James Reynolds in the para mixed pairs final. Despite giving their all, Pauline and Garry were up against a strong performance by the Aussies, coming up short 2-9 & 3-5 at the conclusion of play.

After finishing top of section 3 in the men’s singles Jason Banks faced Corey Wedlock of Australia in the quarter final of the men’s singles. The Scot was forced into playing a number of conversion shots, such was the impressive consistency of the Australian’s drawing. It certainly wasn’t for the lack of trying with Jason eventually being defeated 3-7 & 5-6 respectively.

Scotland picked up a further medal in the para women’s singles with Pauline Wilson securing a bronze medal after her semi final loss to England’s Sally-Ann Lewis-Wall. The first set was closely contested between both players, with Pauline narrowly missing out 4-5. Using the momentum from her first set victory, Sally-Ann found another gear in the second set to win 0-9.

Well done to the full Scottish team, coaches and support staff on their efforts throughout the 2025 World Cup. We would also like to thank Bowls Malaysia and World Bowls for delivering a high-quality event which will undoubtedly be beneficial for all nations preparations towards the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
