Bowls Scotland Launch 2024-28 Strategy

Bowls Scotland is delighted to launch our new strategy, ‘At The Heart Of Your Community’, which showcases an exciting future for our sport.

The four-year strategy has been developed after a 12-month process of consultation with members through face-to-face sessions, over 1,100 survey returns and various meetings with staff, volunteers, our Board Directors and partners.

Launched by the Bowls Scotland Board of Directors, the strategy sets out our values and vision for the sport, and how we plan to achieve our objectives by 2028. We are committed to working together with the bowling community, ensuring that clubs are at the heart of everything we do.

Our key areas of focus are:

  • Strong and Sustainable Clubs. Our clubs continue to be at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to working in partnership with clubs to grow the game of bowls through developing modern, welcoming, sustainable clubs that are at the heart of their local communities.
  • A Modern and Progressive Sport. A modern and progressive sport is one that has good governance and can work with and out with the sport to deliver for its members. We are committed to improving the image of our sport, ensuring underrepresented groups within our society have access to participate, compete and achieve.
  • A Diverse and Accessible Sport. We recognise and are fully committed to embedding the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout our clubs and sport. These values are fundamental to ensuring we collectively progress towards fulfilling our vision of a sport that is accessible for all.
  • Achieving Potential. Bowls Scotland’s players have consistently achieved on the international stage. We will continue to maintain this level, in an environment that creates good culture and seeks talent from around the country, to provide opportunities that maximise potential and deliver long term success.

Speaking on the launch of the new strategy, Bowls Scotland Chair, Kim Walker, said: “This is a very exciting time for bowling in Scotland. Our new strategy focuses upon retaining the history of the game of bowls, whilst at the same time modernising and future proofing our sport.

“Through focused club support we have stabilised membership numbers. However, to flourish in the medium to long term, it is essential that Bowls Scotland, our member clubs, associations and all of our bowlers work together to attract a broader demographic of people to the game.”
