Scotland team announced for 2024 British Isles Internationals

Bowls Scotland is delighted to announce the players that have been selected to represent Scotland at the 2024 British Isles Internationals.

Scotland will take on England, Ireland, Jersey and Wales at Royal Leamington Spa Bowling Club, Victoria Park, England from Friday 28th – Sunday 30th June. Following the recent Men’s and Women’s International Assessment Days, 18 players have been selected for both the men’s and women’s squads. 15 players will be selected from the squad to play in either singles and fours or pairs and triples against each nation.

The men’s team has a familiar feel to it with 12 of the 18 players selected all having represented Scotland in last year’s series at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr. However, there are five news caps in the team which include Aaron Betts, Daniel Gormley, Ryan Gualtieri, Dylan Robertson and Danny Stevenson. There is also a recall for 2023 European Open Pairs winner Andrew Thomson from Whitehall Bowling Club.

In the women’s side, there is a similar pattern with 13 of the 18 strong team also having played in the 2023 series. Alison Lamont, Heather Wallace, Eilidh Weir and Jessica Weir can all look forward to making their full international debuts. West Kilbride Bowling Club’s Wendy Grant is the only recall in the team after last representing Scotland in 2019.

Bowls Scotland’s Men’s Lead, Frazer Muirhead, said: “After several weeks of competitive play and two days of intense assessment, we have picked our team for the upcoming British Isles Internationals. The squad has a great blend of youth mixed with experience to create a well-balanced, high-quality team.

“All players and coaching staff are looking forward to the new format of play so that we can showcase the vast array of talent we have.

“The new caps fitted in well at our squad day and we are confident of delivering strong results.”

Bowls Scotland’s Women’s Lead, Wendy Purdie, added: “Following the successful Podium Opens and Assessment Days, we are eager to compete in the upcoming British Isles Internationals at Leamington Spa, where we will be facing strong teams from across Britain.

“We are confident in our abilities and are excited to showcase the strength and skill of our selected Scottish women bowlers. We are a highly competitive squad with a blend of youth and experience, which includes four new international players.

“Our squad is committed to a successful series and we look forward to a challenging competition.”
