Roz Asli appointed Equality, Inclusion & Welfare Manager
We are pleased to announcement the appointment of Roz Asli as Bowls Scotland’s new Equality, Inclusion & Welfare Manager. This new post is a result of additional investment from sportscotland and will help to accelerate work in this area.
Roz joins Bowls Scotland with a background in retail and hospitality, but she eventually went on to study business. Interested in understanding the inner workings of various organisations, Roz successfully graduated from the Scottish Rural Collage (SRUC) with a BA in Rural Business Management.
After completing her degree, Roz ran for and was appointed Co-President at Scotland’s Rural College Students Association for two years, where she was able to gain equality and inclusion experience at both a strategic and operational level. Roz led several targeted equality and diversity projects within this role by representing young people and helping to influence positive change.
In her spare time, Roz has a passion for nature and outdoors, volunteering with the Scottish Wildlife Trust during any spare time she has.
In her role as Equality, Inclusion & Welfare Manager, Roz will lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of Bowls Scotland’s Equality Action Plan. This will include linking with some of Bowls Scotland’s key stakeholders such as clubs, coaches, and volunteers to understand how equality projects can benefit them.
Excited to be starting her new role, Roz said: “I am excited to join an enthusiastic organisation and I’m keen to help influence positive change within bowls.
“Equality, Inclusion and Welfare is important in every aspect of an organisation, and I am really looking forward to using my skills and knowledge to contribute to making that happen.
“I believe that everyone deserves a chance to get involved and what better sport to get involved in than bowls!? I grew up with little support around me and I understand the importance of ensuring people feel safe. It is an important time for Bowls Scotland, and I can't wait to get started!”
Bowls Scotland Business Operations Manager, Sarah Pryde-Smith, added: “As an organisation, we recognise and are fully committed to embedding the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout our sport. These values are fundamental to ensuring we progress towards fulfilling our vision of a sport that is accessible to all.
“In addition, we are committed to ensuring everyone involved in bowls feels safe and supported, with the welfare of staff, volunteers, coaches, and players a key priority in our new strategy.
“I am confident that Roz will drive this area of work, drawing on her experience working within the education sector. Roz will have the full support of our existing team to allow her to hit the ground running. Welcome to the team Roz!”
