Richard Thomson appointed Competitions & Events Officer
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Thomson as Bowls Scotland’s new Competitions & Events Officer.
Richard began bowling at the age of 12 at his local indoor club, Forfar IBC. He was always around bowling clubs from a young age as most of his family play the sport too. Since 2011, Richard has competed in the Andrew Hamilton Trophy for Angus and his biggest achievement to date is winning bronze in the Bowls Scotland Men’s National Fours in 2018.
After many years working as a machine operator manufacturing industrial textiles, Richard returned to education in 2018 looking to pursue a different career. Five years down the line and he has now graduated from Stirling University with a BA (Hons) in Sports Business Management. In his spare time, Richard has undertaken numerous volunteering roles including as a football coach for Arbroath Lads Club.
In his role as Competitions & Events Officer, Richard will assist in the planning and delivery of all Bowls Scotland events and be a main point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders.
Excited to be starting his new role, Richard said: "I am delighted to be starting with Bowls Scotland.
“This opportunity has come at the perfect time for me. The chance to combine my hobby and new career was too good an opportunity to turn down.
“I can't wait to meet the rest of the team and get to work."
Keen to welcome Richard to the Bowls Scotland staff team, Lawra Cox, Competitions & Events Manager, added: “I am delighted to welcome Richard to our team. Richard comes to Bowls Scotland with a great balance of bowling knowledge as well as sports business management.
“Richard will play a key part in the planning and delivery of our Competitions and Events calendar.
“I am sure Richard will hit the ground running and quickly become a valuable member of our team.”
