End of Year Staffing Update
We are pleased to provide an update on a number of changes to the staffing team at Bowls Scotland.
Stuart Bell has been promoted to the enhanced role of National Development Manager. In this role Stuart will lead the Development team to support and develop our clubs. Stuart will continue to directly support the clubs in his region. With over 10 years of experience as a National Development Officer and with a life-long involvement in the game, Stuart brings a wealth of experience and understanding of bowling clubs to this role.
Alan McDonald has been appointed as our new Coach & Volunteer Manager, replacing Adam Martin who left Bowls Scotland in October. Alan has been with Bowls Scotland for three years as National Development Officer, currently covering the North region. In addition to his experience with Bowls Scotland, Alan holds a Sport and Fitness degree and is a competitive bowler both outdoors and indoors.
Stuart and Alan will both take up their new roles in January 2026. Alan will continue to undertake some of his Development Officer responsibilities for the North Region while a replacement is recruited to that role. (Recruitment)
Adam Martin was Coach & Volunteer for 5 years before leaving Bowls Scotland to take on the role of Head of Development and Coaching at Scottish Rowing. During his time with Bowls Scotland, Adam was integral to developing a coaching culture in our sport and the implementation of our coach education programme, including delivering the refreshed Level 2 Bowls Coaching Award for the first time this summer.
Following more than 6 years as Communications Officer, Darren Weir has left Bowls Scotland to take up a new role in the sports industry. Darren has played an important role in ensuring a modern and progressive image of Bowls Scotland, including overseeing the streaming of every day of this year’s National Championships. Bowls Scotland are now recruiting a Communications Officer on a fixed-term contract. (Recruitment)
Commenting on the staff changes, Bowls Scotland Chief Executive, Malcolm Dingwall-Smith said: “I am delighted that Stuart and Alan are moving into these two crucial roles. Supporting our member clubs and our coaches is vital to the future growth of our game. With so much experience in bowls and as highly valued members of the Bowls Scotland team, there is no one I would rather have stepping into these roles.
“Darren and Adam made great contributions to Bowls Scotland. While sad to see them leave, we are delighted for them as both secured exciting new opportunities. We look forward to continuing to see Darren and Adam playing on greens across Scotland.”
