Margaret Halliday - 2021 Ladies Presidents Message

It is a great honour and privilege to continue as the Lady President of Bowls Scotland in 2021. I wish to take this opportunity to thank Whitburn BC for their support over the last 12 years that I have spent as District Co-Ordinator for District 13.

Together, we have faced a truly unprecedented year in our sport with a global pandemic which has affected all our families, businesses, communities, and our way of life. 2020 was not the year that we all hoped for, both on and off the green, but we remain hopeful that better and brighter days are coming.

Like many of you, I was disappointed to learn that this year’s national competitions have unfortunately been cancelled. I know that this was not a decision that was taken easily or lightly by Bowls Scotland. However, the health and safety of everyone within our bowling family is paramount above all else.

With that being said, this year we are looking forward to regaining some level of normality and getting back out on the green. The COVID-19 pandemic has made us all realise how much we miss the most important aspect of our sport, the ability it has to bring people of all ages and backgrounds together. Bowling clubs really do have a great opportunity to help re-connect so many local communities throughout Scotland.

I am looking forward to the tasks in front of me and I’m certain that Bowls Scotland will continue to fully support clubs with whatever challenges lie ahead.

To all bowlers, have a successful and safe 2021.
