Some of the tutor workforce have taken part in a Q&A to tell us more about their role and what they love about bowls. Iain Dorricott, Gent's District Coordinator for District 5, tells us more about his love of coaching and why he would encourage everyone to have a go at our wonderful game.

Full Name: Iain Dorricott
Club: Broughty Bowling Club

1. Describe your role as a Bowls Scotland tutor:
My role is to support Bowls Scotland in delivering high quality Introductory Coaching Sessions to those wishing to join the coaching ladder in a fun friendly informative and inclusive environment, ensuring that new coaches leave the course with the confidence and tools to take forwards coaching and try bowls events back in their own clubs.

2. Why did you decide to become a tutor?
I have coached at all levels since the mid-1990's as a former SBA qualified coach, re-skilling to Bowls Scotland at earliest opportunities to achieve Intro, Level 1 and Level 2 simply decided the time was right to "give something back". The knowledge and skills gained over the years seemed the perfect backdrop to assist new coaches onto their chosen pathways.

3. What do you like best about coaching?
There are a number of aspects for me - all have the same importance - assisting and supporting players develop through coaching plans from beginners to winning national titles - having fun, taking time out, seeing new coaches smiling their way through Intro Level courses and constantly learning from all those around you. Being asked to deliver sessions to the new European coaches was an amazing experience.

4. What advice would you give to someone looking to try bowls?
Come along with an open mind - it's not for everyone but don't knock it until you've tried it - as can be said for any sport.

5. What is your favourite thing about bowls?
It's a sport accessible to everyone and within that my enjoys are playing, taking part whether it be for fun or in competition - making new friends and catching up with old friends.
