District 16 win 2023 Andy Houston Youth County Finals

Congratulations to District 16 on winning the 2023 Andy Houston Youth County Finals at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr.

The team from Midlothian were crowned champions by 2 clear points after winning three, drawing one and losing one of their matches during today’s finals.

District 16 got off to a great start as they secured three wins and a draw in their opening four encounters which put them in the box seat going into their final game against District 17 (East Lothian). The leaders required just one single rink win to lift the trophy, however, there were some nervy moments along the way as they lost the first two rink matches.

With the last rink match still to complete their final end, District 16 held a one-shot advantage. After some excellent bowls under pressure from both teams it was the Midlothian team who held their nerve to score the one shot they required to become champions.

A huge thanks to all six teams that entered this year’s competition, it was brilliant to have 72 up and coming youngsters competing on the Northfield greens. Our thanks also to Bowls Scotland Gents President, Ron McArthur, who presented to the trophy to District 16’s team captain, Jack Bissett.

2nd – District 17 (17 points +28)

3rd – District 9 (17 points +26)

4th - District 2 (13 points -12)

5th – District 27/29 (13 points -23)

6th - District 14/15 (11 points -19)
