Level 2 Bowls Coaching Award successfully launched

The new Bowls Scotland Level 2 Bowls Coaching Award was successfully launched on Sunday at Stirling Indoor BC.

Attendees, who have already completed Introduction to and Level 1 Bowls Coaching Awards, took part in sessions covering the role of a Level 2 coach, profiling, bowler assessment, nutrition and fitness.

The profiling section explored what information coaches can gather on their bowlers, and enabled them to identify their strengths and areas for development which will inform a coaching plan.

Bob Christie, para bowls head coach for Team Scotland at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, delivered the bowler assessment section which examined how coaches can accurately assess bowlers and what they can observe about their bowlers' delivery across different shots.

Gary Anderson, programme manager at Elmwood Campus, SRUC, delivered the session on nutrition and fitness. This explored how coaches can help improve their bowlers' performance with an understanding of how effective nutrition aids bowlers during competition and how coaches can put fitness plans into practice to improve areas which help improve bowlers' performance such as flexibility, CV fitness and injury prevention.
