2023 Youth Internationals - Day One Report

Scotland’s rising stars made a promising start to the 2023 Youth Internationals at Ebbw Vale Bowling Club, claiming 18 points out of a possible 24 on the first days play.

Play was delayed earlier this morning due to adverse weather, but this wouldn’t dampen the Scots’ spirits. When play did finally get underway, Scotland secured a commanding 6-2 victory over host nation Wales in the first session of the day.

Going into the second session against Ireland, Scotland faced a much tougher assignment and had to settle for a 4-4 draw. Ellie Rendall, Beth Isbister and Aaron Miller claimed Scotland’s only win of the session as there were two draws for the triples skipped by Charlie Mitchell and Jamie Noon respectively.

The third and final session of day one showed Scotland demonstrating their strength in depth as they won 8-0 against Wales. Beth Isbister and Charlie Mitchell had a resounding 27-10 victory in the pairs and another three narrow victories followed for the teams skipped by Lennon Rafferty, Jamie Noon and Aaron Miller.

Scotland currently sit in first place in the overall standings, 4 points clear of second placed England after day one. Another three sessions of play will be contested tomorrow to determine who will be crowned series winner for 2023. Further score updates from these matches will be provided tomorrow evening.
