Arbroath BC raise £900 for NHS

Arbroath Bowling Club held a 49-shots shoot-out singles charity day event on Saturday 22nd August and what a successful day it turned out to be!

The 20 players who took part enjoyed this format, and as the day wore on the money kept pouring in from members and guests making the total a fantastic £900.

Due to the pandemic certain adjustments had to be made, compared to normal procedures, but the club handled these adjustments well, following the guidelines set out by the Scottish Government and Bowls Scotland.

The final saw Darren Burnett matched against Gary Milne, with the former world champion easing to a comfortable 49 – 25 victory.

Commenting on the success of the day, two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Darren, added: “It was great to return to our club in a safe and sensible environment during our recent 49 shot singles tournament.

“The format made for a great day of bowls, however the main winner was of course the NHS and specifically our local Infirmary hospital in Arbroath who we managed to raise some money for.

“The efforts of the NHS and other key workers over the past six months are often taken for granted and I’m glad our committee and club members could do this small gesture to show our appreciation.”
