BIBC & BIWBC Team Managers and Selectors Announced

Applications are now open to apply for International team trials for the 2020 BIBC and BIWBC Senior & Junior teams. The closing date for all applications is Monday 6th April at 4pm.

We are also delighted to announce our new management and selection teams for the coming season, tasked with continuing to bring success for Scotland on the International stage.

The Men’s Senior International team manager will be Andy Meekison, who has been appointed on a 3-year contract. Andy will be assisted by the three-strong selection committee of Bob Dick, who is a former Scottish internationalist and coached at major events such as the World Championships and Commonwealth Games. Former International team manager, Gordon Logan, is also part of the selection team and won the AHT in 2018 as team manager of West Lothian. Newly appointed Scotland U25 team manager Tom Notman completes the selection panel and helps create the link between Junior and Senior International teams.

Andy, said: “I’m honoured to be appointed Team Manager for the Scotland Gents Senior International Team for the next three years and will give it my 100% commitment. Having been involved in selection of both Senior and Junior squads for the past six years I know exactly how many fantastic players of all ages we have throughout the length and breadth of the country. I’ll be focussed on producing the very best Scotland squad available to help bring the International Series trophy back home north of the Border.”

As stated above, Lanarkshire’s Tom Notman has been appointed as the Men’s Junior International team manager on a 3-year contract. Tom has worked as county U25 team manager for the last five years and during that time has been successful in winning the Scottish U25 league and cup for Lanarkshire. He will now step up into the International team managers role. The selection committee for the Junior International team features two-time World Indoor Singles Champion, Stewart Anderson, who currently has the role of SIBA U18 team manager. Former National Singles champion, Frazer Muirhead, also joins the new look team after previously working with the country’s top young talents as National Academy Head Coach. Gents International team manager Andy Meekison completes the selection team having previously worked as a selector for the Junior International team.

Tom, said: “I am both honoured and privileged to be asked to take on the role of Bowls Scotland Gents Under 25 Team Manager. I have full confidence in my team of selectors and the experience which they bring from winning Scottish titles right through to World titles and this will form a fantastic base for our team.”

For the Women’s Senior and Junior International teams, Margaret Bingham has been appointed as manager on a 1-year contract for the Senior team and a 3-year contract for the Junior team. Margaret has operated as team manager for both teams for the previous two years and will be looking to build on the progress made in this time. The selection panel for the Junior International team will feature Scotland’s most capped player ever in Margaret Letham, who brings a wealth of experience having competed at Commonwealth Games and worked with the Junior squad over the last couple of years. Jean Sykes rounds-off the selection team and also brings valuable experience having won multiple National titles and currently holds the role of SIBA Women’s International team manager. The selection committee for the Senior International team will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Margaret, said: “I am extremely proud to have been appointed Team Manager of Scotland for the Women’s Junior and Senior International Teams for the next year with the Seniors and three years with the Juniors. I’ve been team manager of both Senior and Junior squads for the past two years which has been an unbelievable experience getting to work with the country’s top players. We’ve made good progress in the last couple of years and in 2019 we were narrowly pipped to the Senior series by England and the Junior team won the U25 series for the first time in 10 years on home soil at the National Centre for Bowling in Ayr. I’m looking forward to continuing in this role and can hopefully deliver more international success for Scotland.”
